Zoom Tips and Tricks

As Covid-19 continues and the church’s activities grow more active, we are using Zoom more and more often!  With new technology comes new learning, and we’ve put together a few tips, tricks, and helpful ideas to help you make the most out of Zoom at Saint Giles.

Zoom tips:

  • You do not need to have a Zoom account to join a meeting.

  • You do want to be at a computer, tablet, or even a phone that has a camera and a microphone.

  • Joining a meeting:

  1. You will receive an email invitation to join the Zoom meeting. To join the meeting, click on the link in the meeting invitation.

  2. Follow the prompts that come up. You may be prompted to download Zoom software onto your computer. It takes very little time for Zoom to download and install.

  3. If Zoom asks for the meeting ID, copy that from the meeting invitation.

  4. If Zoom asks for access to your camera and your microphone, say yes.

  5. If Zoom prompts you to join the meeting using your computer audio, go ahead and click that button to connect.

  6. Adjust the volume as needed using the volume controls on your computer.

  7. Use the control buttons at the bottom of the Zoom window on your screen to control your camera and microphone. (Hover your mouse over the screen to make the control bar appear.)

  • Click on the microphone icon at the lower left of the screen to mute or unmute yourself. It is strongly recommend that you keep the microphone muted except when you wish to speak. Otherwise, we will have a lot of people talking over one another and every noise in your home or office will be broadcast to the group.

  • Click on the camera icon next to the microphone icon to turn your camera on and off.
