Announcements from the bulletin on Sunday, March 8.
Rise Against Hunger
Save the date! We are preparing for another Rise Against Hunger event at Saint Giles. We will be packing meals on Sunday, April 26th. Our goal is once again 10,000 meals!
We are still in need for volunteers to prepare communion in September, November and December. Sallie Taylor is keeping a schedule for the year of folks who are willing to give, at the very most, two hours of their time to prepare, set up and clean up Communion one time per year. This can be handled by one person in that length of time; or you can work with another person to share the experience. Written instructions are available and quite easy to follow. A supply of juice and wafers is kept in the sacristy. You are asked to provide the loaf of bread to be broken during Communion and can submit a voucher to the office for reimbursement. If you are willing to handle Communion duties for one of the remaining months this year please contact Sallie Taylor. Thank you for your consideration of this request.
Meals on Wheels
Saint Giles supplies volunteers for 9 Meals on Wheels routes every month. That’s about 100 meals to 100 people who would otherwise have trouble making one. Each route has 1 or 2 volunteers. One of those routes needs a new pair. Our delivery day is always the second Monday of the month. Meals are ready for volunteers to pick up by at least 10:30 and my route takes less than 1 hour. I’m home by noon. The pick up location is on Blair Street, off of Centennial Drive. Please think about being part of the Saint Giles team. There will be training! There are substitutes available when you need one. Please contact Chris Gospodarek to sign up!
Saint Giles Talent Show
Be sure to mark your calendar for our entertaining and yummy Lenten practice: the Saint Giles Talent Show on Saturday, March 21st @ 6:30pm. Come enjoy a wonderful evening together in fellowship! Just as we invite you, please invite others – friends, neighbors, relatives, co-workers – go ahead and get the date on their calendars!
Habitat for Humanity Dedication
The Habitat for Humanity townhomes we helped build are ready for families! There is a dedication ceremony -- a nice time of celebration and blessings -- on Saturday, March 14 at 2:00 p.m. St. Giles donated funds, builders, and food so all are welcome to attend! The ceremony is at Abbington Ridge (3854 Volkswalk Place, Raleigh), but parking in the neighborhood is very limited (if you have trouble with a spot, we have the OK to park at Ebenezer United Methodist Church across the street at 6020 Rock Quarry Rd.). Thanks for helping make the dream of affordable homeownership a reality for many. We hope to see you there!
Collection of Items for Longview School
Saint Giles member Tripp Carter works at one of Wake County’s alternative schools, Longview School. Longview School is a public school serving students in grades 6-12 who have experienced behavioral difficulty in a regular school setting. Longview offers small class sizes and a structured behavioral management program. There is a large concentration of low income and homeless children which add to the children's difficulties. Tripp is in need for high protein, non-perishable, individually wrapped snacks to give to his students during the day. Many of these students are not in stable environments and have long rides to school each day because they come from all over the county. It is hard for children to concentrate and have productive days without a little protein! ** We are specifically collecting high protein breakfast bars. ** Please find a large box in the back of the sanctuary for our snack donations for the next few weeks.
