An important component of St. Giles’ ministry is its outreach activities near and far. Many of us are involved in outreach missions facilitated by the church’s Outreach Division. Some examples include:
After School Program
The program is conducted in the Children's Center on Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday afternoons on days when Wake County schools are in session. Members of the congregation are invited to volunteer one or more Tuesday afternoons to enrich the children with their talents in areas such as music, drama and art. Members of the congregation and people from the local community serve as tutors on Mondays and Wednesdays. If you have an interest in volunteering in the After School Program, please contact the church office at 787-4970 or send and email to the church office.
Other Outreach Opportunities Other groups within the church, such as the Presbyterian Women and the Men Of The Church, also participate in a number of service projects. In addition to the outreach activities supported by St. Giles as a congregation, our members are active volunteers for a variety of agencies and organizations. They serve our community in many ways, including volunteering at Dorothea Dix Hospital, delivering Meals on Wheels, helping at a soup kitchen, and working with those newly released from prison. St. Giles also helps a number of organizations by making its facilities available for their use. Alcoholics Anonymous, Narcotics Anonymous and the Boy Scouts (Troop 300), Raleigh Garden Bible Study, call St. Giles home. In collaboration with other churches and organizations, St. Giles supports
other missions, both in time volunteered and in financial support. Currently,
those missions include:
St.
Giles' greater community efforts are directed at promoting the mission
work of the Presbyterian Church, USA. The Greater Community Committee
promotes awareness of our designated missionary and encourages support
of the Church's mission work through special offerings, such as One Great
Hours of Sharing, Pentecost, in support of youth and young adult-related
programs, Peacemaking, in support of peace and justice education at home
and around the world, Christmas Joy Offering, providing support for older
retired church workers and to support ethnic colleges related to the Presbyterian
Church. A monthly Hunger Offering enables us to participate in the Pennies
for Hunger program of New Hope Presbytery. Funds support international
and domestic programs.
