The purpose of the adult education
program is to nurture and educate the congregation for discipleship, and to
provide spiritual enrichment for the participants.
Enjoy beverages and refreshments in the Fellowship Hall, then join us for a class beginning at 9:45am. Classes are held in the Adult Center (next to the Sanctuary, across from the church office). The purpose of the adult education program is to nurture and educate the congregation for discipleship and to provide spiritual enrichment for the participants. This year we will offer two classes during the traditional 9:45-10:30a.m. Sunday School time-slot. Class I is a highly successful discussion series led by Dave Buchanan and Herb Wakeford. The class typically follows the traditional Bible Study model. It meets in Adult Center Classroom A. Class II -- Living the Christian Life -- focuses on how our Christian beliefs inform our daily lives and meets in the Adult Center classroom C.There will be at least four different units throughout the year, with a different leader for each unit. Unit I will be a discussion of The Great Awakening: Reviving Faith & Politics in a Post-Religious Right America by Jim Wallis. Wallis "shows us that a revival is happening, as people of faith and moral conviction seek common ground for change. He helps us rediscover our moral center and provides both the needed inspiration and a concrete plan to hold politics accountable and find solutions to our greatest challenges." (Copies of the book are available in the church library and at public libraries throughout Wake County. Attendees to the class are encouraged, but not required, to read the book in advance so they are able to contribute to the discussion led by Cyndi Bunn.) Unit II, beginning around the first of November, will be based on the DVD series "Seeing Gray in a World of Black and White" by Adam Hamilton. "Everyone agrees that America is polarized, with ever-hardening positions held by people less and less willing to listen to one another. One solution that hasn't yet been tried, says Hamilton, is for thinking persons of faith to model for the rest of the country a richer, more thoughtful conversation on the political, moral, and religious issues that divide us."
