Worship Ministry

As God's people, created in God's image and saved by God's grace, worship is our highest priority and our greatest joy! Jesus reminds us to "Love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your mind" (Matthew 22.37). Worship is what we were made for, and God is the One whom we were made to worship!

Recognizing that not everyone is served by only one style of worship, the congregation gathers in two distinctly different worship services each Sunday morning, seeking to attract more people to Christ's love than would be possible with a single style of worship

We refer to our more contemporary 9:00 -9:45 am service as our E.P.I.C. service.  This service is designed to be Experiential, Participatory, Image-driven, and Connectional.  The music is led by our praise band, and the style is intentionally less "liturgical," fast-paced, but casual.  A Kid's Time is included each week, and the various parts of the service are supported by powerpoint presentations and other clips and videos.

Our 11:00 am to 12:00 pm service is our more traditional-styled worship.  Music is led by the Adult Choir, accompanied by the organ, and by various other soloists and special choirs.  From time to time the children sing in both this service and the EPIC service, or the handbell choir will offer special music.  This service has a more liturgical flavor, but seeks also to be relational and personal.

In every service, the preaching is biblically based, often following the Revised Common Lectionary of Scripture readings. Special worship services are held throughout the year, including (but not limited to) a Maundy Thursday Communion service, Good Friday service, Ecumenical Thanksgiving service, a special Christmas service of choral music, and two Christmas Eve services.

The Sacrament of Holy Communion is observed the first Sunday of each month, and on other special holy days.  The Sacrament of Baptism, for infants, youth or adults is arranged as needed. Various opportunities exist for involvement in worship leadership roles.  Speak with the pastor if you are interested in becoming involved as a lay leader, usher, chorister, dancer, instrumentalist, or in some other creative way.

Opportunities to Participate in the Worship

SERMONS

If you are away and unable to join the congregation in Sunday worship, you may continue to worship with Saint Giles through our Sermon Downloads.  Additionally, From the Pastor's Desk provides a weekly preview of the upcoming sermon with links to the scripture.

FLOWERS

Flowers for worship are provided by church members and others with connections to the members of Saint Giles.  A Sign Up Form is available for those interested in providing flowers for the sanctuary

LAY LEADER

During worship members of the congregation assist the Pastors as lay leaders.  Lay leaders may lead the Call to Worship, read the scriptures, or offer prayers. Training is available for those how have not served as a lay leader.

MUSIC

The EPIC Praise Band leads music for contemporary worship. Gerald Longoria, Contemporary Worship Coordinator, leads practice on Thursday night at 7:00 in the church sanctuary. Instruments used include guitars, drums, keyboard and signers.

The Adult Choir leads music for traditional worship. Carol Hodge, Director of Music, leads approximately 30 voices who practice at 7:30 in the adult choir room just behind the sanctuary.  Joanna Baitenger accompanies the choir on either organ or piano.

Additionally, members of the church share their musical gifts through instrumental or vocal solos, drama or dance.

SANCTUARY PREPARATION

Saint Giles shares communion on first Sunday of each month. The elements of communion are prepared by members of the church.
